ProTeam Vacuum FAQ

Answers from the team that services ProTeam vacuums every day.

Troubleshooting

Why won't the tool stay on my ProTeam wand?

Check that the brass ring is seated inside the wand. If the tool still slips, reset the ring:

  1. Take the tool completely off the wand.
  2. Tighten the nut all the way.
  3. Loosen the nut back up.
  4. Put the tool on and tighten the nut.

The tool should now hold. If the ring or nut is worn, replacements are inexpensive: 100100 ring, 100099 nut, 100101 sleeve.

Why does my ProTeam vacuum shut off and come back on about 15 minutes later?

The motor overheated and its thermal protection shut it off on purpose. It restarts once it cools. The cause is restricted airflow.

On corded and cordless backpacks, change the green filter bag first. If it keeps happening, wash the gray cloth bag.

On uprights, check the green bag and the foam filter under it.

Filters and Bags

Can I wash the gray cloth bag on a ProTeam backpack vacuum?

Yes. Most owners don't realize this. Wash it with warm water and no soap, then let it air dry for 24 to 48 hours before putting it back. The catalog calls this part a Micro Cloth Filter.

How often should I change the HEPA media filter on a ProTeam vacuum?

Every 4 to 6 months. Two signs it is due: the back of the filter is blackened when you take it out, or the vacuum has lost suction.

Are ProTeam HEPA media filters washable?

No. Replace them.

Compatibility and Accessories

Will the electrified power nozzle fit any ProTeam vacuum?

No. The vacuum must have the power plug on the switch box. The power nozzle fits only the Sierra, ProVac FS 6, GoFit 6 PH and GoFit 3 PH.

For a new machine, the GoFit 6 PH, 107769 and GoFit 3 PH, 107770 come with the power nozzle kit.

What size extension cord do I need for a ProTeam backpack vacuum?

ProTeam recommends a 16-gauge, 3-wire cord, 50 feet long, for backpack vacuums. 101678 50-ft 16-gauge cord

Warranty and Service

What is the warranty on my ProTeam vacuum?

It depends on the model, so each machine's product page has its own Warranty section. Most ProTeam backpacks carry 3 years on parts, labor and motor plus lifetime replacement on molded body parts, with exceptions on some models. Wear items such as filters, hoses, wands and floor tools are excluded.

Buying

Can a ProTeam vacuum be used for lead or mold remediation?

The ProTeam model for this work is the GoFit 6 HEPA, 107766. It captures 99.97% of particulates as small as 0.3 microns and meets the EPA's definition of a HEPA vacuum under the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule.

ProTeam states that the GoFit 6 HEPA and its HEPA filter configuration may be used to contain certain hazardous materials, such as mold and lead, when used in accordance with applicable federal (EPA, OSHA), state and local regulations. Confirm the rules that apply to your job before you start.

Does ProTeam still make a canister vacuum?

ProTeam has discontinued its dry canister vacuums. The ProGuard 15 and ProGuard 20 wet/dry canisters are current. Bags and filters for older canisters remain available.

Are ProTeam vacuums a good choice for home use?

Yes, and it is very common now. They ship as commercial units, and most kits include a tool made for low-pile carpet. For a home, consider adding the 100614 hard floor tool for hardwood and other hard floors, and the 836357 air-driven Turbo Tool for carpet.
